Mars Hill College to host “Pink Day” at Enka High this Sunday

The Mars Hill softball team will host its “Pink Day” event this Sunday when the Lions take on Limestone College at Enka High School in Candler, N.C.

The team will partner with the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer at the game. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is the leading corporate supporter of breast cancer globally. T-shirts and handmade bracelets will be available for sale. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Enka High School.

Since 1992, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has been working tirelessly to help prevent, treat and ultimately eradicate the disease. The Crusade has raised more the $780 million since its inception. The Crusade’s life-saving work supports awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to care, support services and scientific research.

Beneficiaries range from leading cancer research centers to local, non-profit breast health programs, creating a powerful international network of research, medical, social service, and community-based breast cancer organizations.

Mars Hill’s Taylor Morris and Stephanie McGrath will be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this summer. Funds raised from T-shirt and bracelet sales will help the two accumulate the donation needed to participate in the walk.

The “Pink Day” event will take place prior to and during Sunday’s doubleheader between Mars Hill and Limestone at Enka High School. The school is located at 475 Enka Lane Road in Candler, N.C. The school will be charging a $5 admission fee to all attendees.

The game will also serve as a homecoming for two Enka alums. Mars Hill senior Ashley McCurry and Limestone senior Kirstyn Burleson each attended Enka and played softball for the Jets. Enka head coach Jennifer Kruk played softball collegiately at Mars Hill.

Mars Hill enters the week 18-8 overall and is in second place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-3 conference mark. The Lions are away against Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, and Young Harris on Thursday before returning home to host Catawba on Senior Day. The Lions will honor seniors Stephanie McGrath, Taylor Morris and Ashley McCurry prior to the game.
